A cosy aran weight knitted shawl: Midnight Sunset

We're very keen on all things cosy right now - winter in the UK seems to shift a bit later every year which is great for us knitters and crocheters who love to bundle up in our handmade pieces. Or is that just me?!  With this in mind Ruth McKeon aka Knitterarium's latest shawl pattern release is really striking a chord with me! It's a big semi-circle shawl which has both lace and cosy garter stitch sections, and rather unusually it's made in aran weight yarn. You don't see that many shawls in aran, but when it's properly cold outside...

#FOFriday - is it cheating if it's really small??

Further to my previous post about an old FO that I've only just got photos of, this post is about a much smaller FO which I did actually make this week... and I managed to get it finished and photographed by Friday..!  For now - these are my Lambing Mitts. This is a pattern by Veronika Jobe for Tolt Yarn and Wool - it's on Ravelry HERE.  I made these to test out a new yarn we're bringing out in a couple of weeks - Bowland Aran. It's super-easy It'd be perfect for beginner knitters, and for more practised folks it's the perfect mindless TV/travel project. I made my first one (HERE on Ravelry) whilst on holiday in Norfolk with a group of ten friends, so I needed something super-easy. As I posted on the Everyday Knitter group at...

We have Titus 4ply; an ECY classic of superwash merino/silk, which knits up with great drape and stitch definition. You can see all the amazing Ravelry projects in it HERE. Below is a little taster of the 4ply, but you can see a FULL preview of everything that'll be available over on our Facebook event page which we created for this update (we're going to be doing that for all updates going forward as it's a brilliant way to be able to post ...

Ebb and Flow - a new collection by Anni Howard

Today I wanted to tell you about something we've mentioned in our newsletter but haven't talked about on here - Anni Howard's latest new collection, Ebb and Flow, a range of knit and crochet designs inspired by the bleak beauty of the  Essex coastline and river estuaries. Eden Cottage Yarns are used in three of the four designs. Here's the whole collection together - you can really see the soft, bleak palette and rich textures, and I think they work beautifully with my yarns - I love bleak landscapes and barely-there colours, and find them incredibly compelling. Strood Strood is...
