Acer - a crocheted shawl: A5 print pattern

This is an A5 print copy of Acer, which is a crocheted shawl from The Crochet Project aka Joanne Scrace and Kat Goldin. It was produced in conjunction with lovecrochet.com where you can buy the digital pattern if you prefer. The brown shawl in the photos is my shawl, worked in Askham 4ply in Walnut for the main colour (I used four balls). This yarn has been discontinued but any of our hand dyed yarns would work beautifully instead.

Requirments are: a 4mm hook (or size required to acheive the correct gauge) and 420yds of 4ply fingering weight yarn.

Inspired by the beautiful tumbling waves of leaves on a mature Acer tree this pretty patterned shawl is deceptively simple to make. Worked in ever increasing rows so there is no long foundation chain, the size is easily adaptable – just work more or fewer rows.

Designed to be suitable as a first attempt at shawls for crocheters who are nervous about following patterns.

The pattern is written in UK standard crochet terminology and charted.

Written for both 4ply and DK yarn weights but easily adapted to any weight.

Skill Level: Easy

Skills Used:
Basic crochet stitches, working in rows, working into chain spaces, working into stitches,
bobbles (explained).

Construction:
Starting at one end, each row is increased on the neck edge only until the shawl reaches the desired size.
