Echoing Green Shawl knitting pattern and add-on kit

This is the Echoing Green shawl Add-On kit... simply choose your yarn and add it to your basket, along with this add-on, and I will make it up into a kit for you - it will include the pattern and an ECY printed cotton project bag.

Please note that we will only post out this add-on as part of a full kit, ie. with the yarn bought for the shawl (eg 400m per shade).

About the pattern

The Echoing Green Shawl by Jayalakshmi is a top-down, half-circle shawl knit in two colors of Oakworth 4ply. The stockinette body is knit in Hosta and the lace border is knit in Larch. The shawl has optional decorative fringes along the central spine and the top of the lace border.

The shawl is the first of the four-shawl collection Four Seasons. It draws its name and inspiration from the beautiful, short poem by William Blake. The poem begins with a short description of children playing on a green, grassy field on a warm, spring day, and ends with the older men reminiscing about their youth, embracing the change from youth to old age. The poem contrasts youth and old age, with Spring representing life in general. Morning represents the beginning of life, the Echoing Green, and evening the end of life, the darkening Green. This Spring shawl is a celebration of this deep philosophy of life, reflecting childhood and youth in the light green shade, and old age or the end of life in the darker green shade with the falling leaves lace.

The Collection

The Four Seasons Collection was an exciting collaboration with Jayalakshmi of Apoorva Designs. Four Seasons is a collection of four shawls/wraps, one for each season, inspired by Jaya’s love for simple and meaningful poetry, by some of her favourite poets. Each poem and the associated design celebrate the season while also conveying a deeper meaning and philosophy of life. All four designs use Eden Cottage Yarns in a variety of quantities, bases and weights to beautifully capture the spirit of both the poem and the season

Jaya is a knitwear designer, and mother of twin girls living with her husband in India. She believes in designing simple yet elegant knits that are as fun to knit as they are comfortable to wear. Jaya's designs have always beautifully showcased our yarns and this collection certainly didn't disappoint.
