Ever wondered what terms like semi-solid, variegated, or OOAK mean? Hopefully this blog post will help explain and guide you through the myriad of hand dyed yarns that are available now. Firstly let me tell you a bit about production of hand dyed yarn, which will give you some context. It arrives from the mill in un-dyed skeins, meaning that the wool is not bleached or anything, it’s simply in its natural colour (in this case cream). When they process it they wind it into skeins (also known as hanks), and add a few ties to keep the skeins neat....

As many of you know, photographing yarn colour combinations is one of my long-standing and favourite things to do; I love sharing them with you all. And it's very rare for us to be doing the trendy thing, or latest thing, BUT don't you think the #whatthefade KAL is the PERFECT thing for us to get on board with??! Love to crochet? Here's a little hat/beret I think you'll like.. This is Tunny from our Bletchley Collection by Joanne Scrace, which was released in December 2014 and continues to be popular. The original hat sample, which you can see on the Ravelry pattern page HERE was made in Milburn 4ply (that's the superwash BFL/silk) with Rust (main colour), Harvest Gold, and Night Sky (contrast colours). We still have some Rust left in the SALE section, however I really wanted something made up in Steel, along with Askham 4ply in Ice and Damselfly. Because they're pretty together.. wouldn't you...
