ECY monthly round up: August 2023
The past couple of months have been really busy here at ECY Shedquarters! There sort of wasn’t much to report on in July because although we did a lot of work it was mostly producing and setting up for things that ended up happening in August. Let’s start with pattern releases. Firstly there was our long-awaited Swainby Hat pattern release (which is HERE on our website plus is on Ravelry and Payhip). This pattern has been through test-knitting and we have a gallery of the test knit hats HERE if you want to see what it looks like in...
ECY monthly round up: June 2023
June was another busy month at ECY! It is truly a pleasure to work with people from all over the world - it’s one of the biggest things that I’ve always loved about my job and I get as excited about it now as I did back in 2011 when I got my first international stockists and knit/crochet designers getting in touch. On that note this month’s wholesale orders have gone off to Loop in London, Seam in Exeter, Yarnaholic in Japan and Joy in South Korea. Loop and Yarnaholic are shops I’ve been working with for many years...
ECY monthly round up: May 2023
As we head towards summer here in Yorkshire, I thought it would be good to do a round up of what’s been happening at ECY Shedquarters over the past month. I’ll go through it in chronological order. We started out with something we’re particularly proud of which was a donation of £960 to Sarah Holmes’ Flower Power Fund, which is an ongoing fundraiser for Marie Curie. Sarah’s been doing the Flower Power Fund for a few years now and I think we’ve been involved every year so far, usually dyeing an exclusive flower-inspired yarn and selling it over the course...

Where has 2022 gone? We are already in full festive mode here at ECY Shedquarters. With the ongoing industrial action throughout Royal Mail postage will be delayed again running up to December the 25th and so I would encourage you to crack on if you are wanting to order anything. We have info on shipping dates HERE actually - please do take a look. So... I know that a lot of people will be buying for others, but these are relevant if you fancy a treat yourself too, so I hope you find it useful. We've split ideas into budget sections. I am going...

Language matters: why I will only call grafting by this name
The other day I posted a reel of me grafting a sock toe together and it prompted some discussion about 'Kitchener stitch'. Kitchener is the guy on those well-known army posters where he's pointing at you and text reads "Britons want you". Let me tell you why I do not call it that. It doesn't take much digging to find this information by the way if you want to read up on it yourself. Kitchener was high up in the British army during the Boer War and is responsible for concentration camps which were used as part of the 'Scorched...
