For the love of aran yarns

Our next hand dyed yarn update is all about aran; and having been knitting with it a lot recently as a result, it's reminded me how wonderful aran yarns are to work with! They're a joy to dye, they're lovely to twist up because they're full of bounce and very forgiving, they're lovely to work with because they knit or crochet up so quickly but without being too bulky, and they're lovely to wear because they don't feel heavy yet they are so warm and cosy. Langdale Superwash Aran We've always had one long-standing aran yarn, which you'll have known...

The big summer Titus update: more info

Hello! As you may know, we're having an update tonight (31.07.17), which is all about the Titus.. We have Titus 4ply; an ECY classic of superwash merino/silk, which knits up with great drape and stitch definition. You can see all the amazing Ravelry projects in it HERE. Below is a little taster of the 4ply, but you can see a FULL preview of everything that'll be available over on our Facebook event page which we created for this update (we're going to be doing that for all updates going forward as it's a brilliant way to be able to post ...

Preview of Friday's hand dyed yarn update: Bowland 4ply

Here's the second yarn in Friday's update (Friday the 30th of June at 8pm).. this is a yarn that should be very familiar to most of you as BFL Sock. However... it has always bugged me that I never came up with a better name for this yarn. It's daft really because I've had Bowland DK for years, and it never occurred to me that the 4ply version of the same yarn might be Bowland 4ply. Anyway... it is now!  I've updated it in Ravelry and you can see all the projects made in it over the years HERE. Moving...

Preview of Friday's hand dyed yarn update: Harewood 4ply

Friday's update has a bit of a BFL theme to it, with two different superwash British Bluefaced Leicester yarns. It goes live at 8pm on Friday the 30th so set your alarms! So the first yarn is Harewood 4ply - this is a high twist yarn as you can see from the texture; it's slightly woolly but has good stitch definition and drape. It's one of the yarns used in Justyna Lorkowska (aka Lete's Knits)'s Holyrood shawl - this was our second Edinburgh Yarn Festival shawl collaboration. If you look on the Ravelry pattern page HERE the top photo shows...

Rambling Rose

Rambling Rose

This is exactly the kind of rose I had in mind when I designed my Rambling Rose colourway; several years ago now. It's not in my garden but once I do start on it I will want something like this. It's just so pretty. One of my dye pigments has recently significantly changed - without warning from the manufacturer. I just noticed the first time I used it. So over the past couple of months I've had to tweak loads of my recipes, and that includes Rambling Rose, because although it may look like a simple pink it's actually a...
