Rokeby Hat by Victoria Magnus: hat knitting kit

This is a kit to make the Rokeby Hat, which uses easy stranded colourwork (knitted). One kit will make one hat. Kits contain the yarn, digital pattern download and a printed ECY cotton project bag.

This hat is designed to go with our Rokeby fingerless mitts and Rokeby Cowl patterns, using the same houndstooth motif that features in the mitts/gloves/cowl. It is relatively easy colourwork again, and of course there is a lot of scope for playing with colours in this project.

Materials
Eden Cottage Yarns, Milburn 4ply
(85% Bluefaced Leicester, 15% silk, 200m/218yds per 50g ball)
Compost; 1 x 50g ball
Thyme; 1 x 50g ball
One 2.75mm (or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge) 40cm / 16in circular needle for the ribbing
One 3mm (or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge) 40cm / 16in circular needle for the colourwork
Stitch marker

Size
Size given is to fit head circumference of approximately 49cm / 19.25 in stretching to at least 62cm / 24.5 in
Finished circumference: 49cm / 19.25 in
Finished height: 20.5cm / 8 in
The hat shown is as above and fits my 62cm head nicely; not too tight or loose.

Gauge
29 sts and 36.5 rows to 10cm / 4 in colourwork pattern in the round on 3mm needles after blocking.
The gauge will change after blocking; and the colourwork measured for this gauge is quite stretchy. If you cannot get enough stretch after blocking, it might be worth going up a needle size or two.
We also recommend using a needle size smaller than the body for the ribbing, in order to give it a more fitted feel.

Pattern notes
This pattern is written for one size as the fabric is quite stretchy, however if you would like to make a bigger/smaller/longer hat you will need to work in multiples of four for both the stitch count and row count.
