Yarn/colour combinations for Joji's Elton Tee pattern

With having recently seen Joji's new pattern, Elton Tee, I thought it would be fun to put together some suggested yarn and colour combos for it.  The pattern calls for a light fingering weight yarn as the first colour, and a 2ply fluffy mohair/silk laceweight for the second colour. Please check out the pattern information for the sizing and yarn requirements in more detail. Bear in mind that Titus Fingering has 400m in 100g, Eldwick Lace has 420m in 50g, and Askham Lace has 800m in 100g. With this in mind it struck me that Titus Fingering would be...

Askham Lace + Eldwick Lace yarn and colour inspiration

Having recently reintroduced Askham Lace (baby alpaca/silk) I made a swatch using it held double with Eldwick Lace (kid mohair/silk) as I thought it'd make a really nice fabric. It did! See below.. The colours here are Askham Lace in Silver Birch and Eldwick Lace in Hyssop.. I used 3.5mm needles and got 19sts x 30 rows in 10cm square (what this tells us is that it opened up a lot more widthways than lengthways - I would normally get that sort of stitch gauge on 4.5-5mm needles but not so much the row gauge! It might just be the...

This year I have decided to bring back a yarn that's been away for a while.. Askham Lace. This beautiful yarn is baby alpaca/silk with 800m/100g and it's a traditional 2ply. It's not a brushed fluffy yarn, it's a smooth yarn, but it does have a lovely gentle halo from the baby alpaca. The term 'baby alpaca' isn't just hyperbole; it means the fibre is finer than standard alpaca, meaning it's softer. If alpaca normally itches or tickles you you might find that this one doesn't. I have sensitive skin and can't wear any other alpaca apart from my own! ...

Colourway inspiration: Summer Rose

The rose that inspired colourway Summer Rose is currently blooming! It's absolutely beautiful and as the blooms fade they'll develop pink speckles like you can see in the colourway.    I've hand dyed it on yarn base Titus 4ply here, which is superwash extrafine merino/silk with 400m to 100g.

July 2024 - a general update of what's on at ECY

Hi folks and good afternoon from a warm and sunny-ish Yorkshire! I'm sure many of you follow my social media and newsletters and stuff but I thought I should post an update on the blog too seeing as it appears on the website. There's so much to tell you since my last general news blog post so I won't try and cover it all, I'll just talk about the latest stuff.  Firstly as I'm sure you'll have heard by now Laura has left ECY to move on to pastures new. She'll be greatly missed of course, but unfortunately with Brexit...
