Designer Spotlight: An interview with Michael Harrigan

Michael got in touch with us in 2018 when he was submitting a design using Hayton 4ply to Cast On, the magazine of The Knitting Guild Association. This design was My Garden Window and is so quintessentially ECY we fell in love with it! Michael quickly followed this up with another lovely design using Hayton 4ply which incorporated beautiful lace stitches as well as contrasting colours. In the time since then Michael has continued to amaze us with his creative designs and we were delighted when he expressed an interest in our Lowther Lace as we were keen to work...

Cat Knits by Marna Gilligan of 'an caitin beag' (she of sinister cat fame!) is a book of 16 knit designs all featuring Marna's signature kitties on a mixture of garments and accessories. It's a wide-ranging book actually - it feels like there's more than 16 items in there. Each chapter covers a different yarn weight, so there's a 4ply section, and DK section, an Aran section, and a Chunky section. Hands up who wants to make allllll the things now?! ✋ Designs using Moss Flitcha by Brian Smith This gorgeous textured cowl actually calls for Bowland DK in Moss, but four balls of Milburn DK would be perfect. It looks cosy!   Slouch socks by Anna...

I say that because they’ve helped me in all of those ways. Having a project on the go can give you an achievable thing to focus on (obsess over if you need to), which can make you feel settled, relaxed, calm, and accomplished. I know that some projects can make you feel quite stressed with their complexity but that’s totally not necessary so don’t let it put you...

Autumn Fields - yarn with a heart of beautiful soft gold

Autumn Fields is a beautiful soft sandy gold. Introduced in the second wave of colours in late 2016. You can read the blog post from when it was announced HERE. Inspired by Victoria's love of late autumn, this is a soft brown gold rather than an orange/yellow shade, making it really great for pairing with other colours. This great quality may well have been part of its downfall. It works so well with other colours that it hasn't really had an opportunity to shine as a stand-alone. But it should probably not come as a surprise as brown shades seem...
