Pattern: Buccaneer

Today I'm wearing my Buccaneer, so I thought I'd tell you about it. It's also pertinent because it's by Justyna Lorkowska, who has also just released Piccadilly in conjunction with Loop London, and that uses ECY Hayton 4ply, so there's a link! Buccaneer is worked end-to-end, mostly in garter stitch, with two stripe sections. For those stripe sections you can either pick chevron stripes or wave stripes. I went for the wave stripes.. (We took our photos at Malham in the Yorkshire Dales). I was after a dusky, romantic sort of palette, so my main colour is Hayton 4ply in Compost,...

New Pattern: Carved Stone Ball Socks

Introducing... Carved Stone Ball Socks, a new pattern by Sarah Foxley. I won't mess about - you can find the (FREE) pattern HERE on Ravelry. I asked Sarah about the inspiration behind the pattern, which features a textured stitch pattern, lovely comfy-looking heel-flap heels, and a star toe. The pattern is intrinsically linked to her job as an archaeologist and a visit to the Orkneys, so I will let her tell you about it. It's shown here in Natural, which I need to restock, but it'd be lovely in any of the colours. Don't be put off by the marl shades - they do show up cables. I think I sent my lovely sample knitter 11...

Featured pattern: Swale

Swale (by the lovely Karie Westmann) is something you might need today.. On this cold, wet, grey November day, and big cosy shawl around the neck is just the ticket - I'm wearing my Worsted Boxy, but I find it leaves the back of my neck cold so I often wear shawls too. Today, it's the red Swale shown in the photos below. Here are some links for you Pattern page on Ravelry Buy the Ebook on Ravelry Buy the single print pattern Buy the print book  Yarn is here And here's the Lookbook (which is basically a book preview)...

A handknit hat: Lapsang

Today I thought I'd talk a little about Lapsang; a pattern by Clare Devine, as part of the Tea Party collection. She has also blogged today about the story of this lovely pattern HERE. This is my second Lapsang (Raveled HERE); it took me about four hours to make.. So it's one that you can come back to over and over again. Need a gift for tomorrow? Cast on tonight, and you can have it blocked overnight, ready for tomorrow. Awesome! The yarn I used is the same as in my previous post (and I'm sure will feature in many, many...
