Round Up: Fibre East 2016

In case you're thinking of going to Fibre East.. I can recommend it! This year was our first year at this show - we actually almost went in a previous year then had to cancel due to a family wedding, so it felt like it'd been a long time coming. There are sheep.. here's regal sheep: Wee sheep: Smug sheep: And Derpy sheep (who was a cutie): Here's our little stall. Having just moved house we were really glad I'd booked just a small one. We couldn't fit all the yarn in the car, but since we had the British...

Brioche.. Using Continental knitting & purling

Posted: August 10, 2016

A short while ago I posted an Instagram video of me working brioche. Why? Because I knit and purl using my left hand for the yarn, ie. Continental style, and I t's particularly well-suited to brioche leading to a very fluid and fast movement compared to working it with the yarn in my right hand. I really rate Continental knitting anyway, as it's far faster and better for avoiding RSI. It takes a bit of perseverance to transfer from British style knitting (ie 'throwing') to Continental style knitting (ie 'picking'), but it's very worthwhile, especially if it makes the difference...

July Update Preview

Hello, Here's a preview of this Sunday's update for you - I hope it's useful! There are links to the pages where the yarns will be in case you want to bookmark them ready. The homepage is http://www.edencottageyarns.com  And if you'd like an email reminder (it goes out at the same time as the update goes live at 12 noon UK time) you can join the newsletter HERE. A wee note: as many of you will already know, updates sell out fast. And my website DOES NOT have a shopping cart hold function; therefore when you add yarn to your...

Update Preview Part 2: BFL Sock

Following on from part one of this update preview, I thought I'd best show you the rest of what's going to be appearing. Firstly there's a little Bedale 4ply - that's the 4ply baby yak/silk blend. It's soft and cosy but drapey too. It's designed to be a good alternative to cashmere/silk blends, and I think it lives up to that really well. There's just one dyelot of Rambling Rose and one dyelot of Compost (I personally think the Compost is darker in real life). [start_gallery] [end_gallery] The rest of the update though is BFL Sock. Here's one of each,...

Update preview: Tempo 4ply

The next Eden Cottage Yarns update is on Sunday at 12 noon UK time, and here's the first batch of yarn that'll be in it - this is all Tempo 4ply, which is our machine washable wool/nylon sock yarn. (That's the batch of Faded Bloom ^^) This particular blend is fine, soft, and drapey - it's by far the loveliest version of this fibre blend that I've ever encountered. Although I'm currently knitting a shawl in this yarn, I do have socks made in it, and they have withstood a huge amount of abuse - they are my most long-lasting and...
