Yarn, knitting, and crochet related gift ideas for 2021 - the ECY Gift Guide

It's that time of year again! This year has absolutely flown by (or is that just me?!) and with postage being potentially really slow again running up to December the 25th I would encourage you to crack on if you are wanting to order anything. We have info on shipping dates HERE actually - please do take a look.  So... I know that a lot of people will be buying for others, but these are relevant if you fancy a treat yourself too, so I hope you find it useful. We've split ideas into budget sections. Willow Fingerless Mitts: intro, notes, and a finished project gallery

The first of my new designs to accompany the refreshed Willow Shawl, Willow Fingerless Mitts use a column of the Willow lace motif to add detail to the back of the hand. The rest of the mitt is fairly straightforward and the pattern offers ways to adjust both the hand size and length.  In the pattern development stage I tried a few different iterations to get the lace panel positioning right. This is a fascinating read and really gives you an insight into Liz and her design process.  ...

Designer Spotlight: An Interview with Sophie McKane

Sophie McKane, aka Unicorn Designs, is a wonderful designer. In the past two years alone Sophie has released a number of beautiful patterns including some using Eden Cottage Yarns.  Her designs have been published in magazines as well as several being self-published. We love her use of colour and stitch patterns, and thought it would be great to find out a bit more about her.  Can you tell us a little about your background and how you came to become a designer? My grandma was a prolific knitter and she’s the one who first taught me to knit, when I was very...

"If you like it then you oughta knit a cat on it!"

Cat Knits by Marna Gilligan of 'an caitin beag' (she of sinister cat fame!) is a book of 16 knit designs all featuring Marna's signature kitties on a mixture of garments and accessories. It's a wide-ranging book actually - it feels like there's more than 16 items in there. Each chapter covers a different yarn weight, so there's a 4ply section, and DK section, an Aran section, and a Chunky section. Each section has a garment AND matching accessories included, and they range from nice simple textures, to stranded colourwork (like sinister cats), to intarsia. Intarsia! I swear that this...
