Introducing: the need for tweed, with Keswick Fingering and Keswick DK yarns

Introducing… the need for tweed!   At this point you may have already heard of two of our new (for 2020) yarns - Keswick Fingering, and Keswick DK. They debuted in June and I did a Shedcast episode about them, so this blog post is to go with that. It’s not a direct transcript because I find that typed up blog posts work better following their own narrative, but I will make sure I cover everything that I covered in the video in case you cannot watch it.  Firstly, let me tell you exactly what it is - it’s 85%...

Introducing: Keld Fingering; our beautiful new hand dyed merino/linen yarn ❤️

This is a blog post aimed at accompanying our first episode of The Wholly Irregular ECY Shedcast where I introduced a new yarn - Keld Fingering. It’s based on a transcript of the video so I hope it helps! Firstly, here it is on our website: KELD What is it?  So firstly I’ll start by telling you what Keld Fingering is - it’s a beautiful blend of 90% superwash merino with 10% linen, spun as a fingering weight (equivalent to 4ply in thickness) singles yarn. Hands up who wants to make allllll the things now?! ✋ Designs using Moss Flitcha by Brian Smith This gorgeous textured cowl actually calls for Bowland DK in Moss, but four balls of Milburn DK would be perfect. It looks cosy!   Slouch socks by Anna...

The Drift Collection... four years on! We revisit an ECY classic.

Today marks four years since the release of our Drift Collection! Can you believe it?! I know some of you will have been involved in test-knitting for it and will know how big a deal it was for us. I (Victoria) still worked alone at that point, and producing a quite large collection from loads of different designers, whilst still running the business, was a huge challenge. I did most of the photography myself (I couldn't afford to do anything else!), but did have a paid tech editor, and proof reader, of course. Meanwhile I was also still dyeing yarn,...

Designer Spotlight: An interview with Tracey Todhunter

I’m sure that many of you will have heard of today’s interviewee, but did you know that she worked in a yarn shop and has had books published? Tracey and I (Victoria) have known each other for about a decade now, and it’s always a pleasure to work with her. I’m really grateful to her for answering my nosey questions, and the answers are very interesting… enjoy! Can you tell us a little about your background and how you came to become a designer?I’ve been crocheting since I was four and always “tweaked” published patterns, so it was inevitable I...
