Hobbies and Mental health

Hi all, Laura here! Victoria has let me loose on the blog so you should see a few more posts from me over the next few weeks. My first is a bit of a cheat as it is actually a guest post. We were recently contacted by Maria Cannon of HobbyJr to see if we would be interested in an article she had written. Those who have been following us over the past year will know that mental health is close to both mine and Victoria's hearts. What you may not know is that my struggle with anxiety is actually...

Preview of Friday's hand dyed yarn update: Harewood 4ply

Friday's update has a bit of a BFL theme to it, with two different superwash British Bluefaced Leicester yarns. It goes live at 8pm on Friday the 30th so set your alarms! So the first yarn is Harewood 4ply - this is a high twist yarn as you can see from the texture; it's slightly woolly but has good stitch definition and drape. It's one of the yarns used in Justyna Lorkowska (aka Lete's Knits)'s Holyrood shawl - this was our second Edinburgh Yarn Festival shawl collaboration. If you look on the Ravelry pattern page HERE the top photo shows...

Rambling Rose

This is exactly the kind of rose I had in mind when I designed my Rambling Rose colourway; several years ago now. It's not in my garden but once I do start on it I will want something like this. It's just so pretty. One of my dye pigments has recently significantly changed - without warning from the manufacturer. I just noticed the first time I used it. So over the past couple of months I've had to tweak loads of my recipes, and that includes Rambling Rose, because although it may look like a simple pink it's actually a...

Purple

So as I was hanging a batch of BFL Sock in Salvia on the line (destined for Kathy's Knits in Edinburgh) , it struck me how much purple (or nearly purple) there is around the garden... So I nabbed a skein off the line and grabbed my iPad, and had a wild few minutes putting this purple skein everywhere. Here's how it went. It's a good match for this heavily perfumed buddleja (ironically not the shade of our Buddleja colourway)... Or how about alongside this sage..     I like it with the vibrancy of this small verbena..    And with the...

Garden Colours of June

The title's self-explanatory I think.. I just love seeing the colour combat ions that my garden throws at me. This is mostly in view from the kitchen sink where I do my dyeing, so it does influence what goes into the monthly updates. Anyway... Enjoy!
