For #FOFriday this week I have a bit of a cheat project in that it was so quick I actually made it over the weekend and it was washed and blocking on Sunday night.

Anyway, I present - NoShow Socks by La Maison Rililie - you can see the pattern page HERE on Ravelry, and you can see mine HERE

One of the great reasons to love this pattern is that it taught me German short rows. Have you tried them? It's one of those things that I can't believe I've never done before - they're brilliant! La Maison Rililie has a tutorial for them on her website HERE

It's well worth trying if you haven't done before.

These socks do look a bit weird off the foot when you put them on they're great. They go well in Skechers Go Walk trainers:

I've used the Cottage Original Sparkle 4ply yarn (see my previous post) for mine, in colourways Black Magic Rose (dark pink), Stonecrop (light pink), and Bark (grey-brown).

The cast off is clever too - that's another thing I learnt, also from a tutorial off the La Maison Rililie (these tutorials are linked to from the pattern which is handy if you're on a mobile device). So the socks really cling to the back of your heel without being tight around the front.

I reversed the two main colours for the stripe sequences, because after knitting one sock I realised you don't actually get much of the contrast colour coming through.

These socks are knitting toe up as well, which is particularly useful for trying them on.

If you want to see what we've got left of this yarn, you can see it on the ECY website HERE

Have you made these socks? What did you think of them? I'd love to hear about it!

They are, aren’t they?! It took me a few looks over the tutorial to get my head around them but I reckon I’ll use them preferentially now,

  • Tried them on my current project and agree they are brill, a lot neater and easy once you get your head around the technique.
