Autumn Fields - yarn with a heart of beautiful soft gold
Autumn Fields is a beautiful soft sandy gold. Introduced in the second wave of colours in late 2016. You can read the blog post from when it was announced HERE. Inspired by Victoria's love of late autumn, this is a soft brown gold rather than an orange/yellow shade, making it really great for pairing with other colours. This great quality may well have been part of its downfall. It works so well with other colours that it hasn't really had an opportunity to shine as a stand-alone. But it should probably not come as a surprise as brown shades seem...

Milburn: How is the yarn produced? What's involved?
Whenever I talk about yarn production and what’s involved the reaction I get is “oh wow, I didn’t know”. So I thought I would pop it up here on the blog for you all to have a read, and I hope you find it interesting and insightful. It will also help explain why we don’t have all the yarn all of the time! Anyone who’s been involved in stock management will know how complicated it can be, trying to re-order with a long enough lead time for the item to be produced and shipped to you without losing the momentum...

Milburn: How did you choose your colours for this yarn?
My yarn colour inspiration comes from flowers and the environment. Most of the Milburn range has an equivalent shade in our hand-dyed yarns - I send off the shades to the dyers (both also Yorkshire-based, which is rather satisfying) and they match them, send them back to me for approval, and then if I approve they go ahead with the dyeing. In short (I'll write more about this in my next blog post), when Milburn first started we were limited to five shades because of spinning and dyeing minimums; that was really hard to choose. As we’ve expanded the palette...
Want to see our first sparkly yarn??!
This morning I was out in the pouring rain photographing the sparkly yarn I've dyed for Saturday's 7am update... obviously the yarn was kept under the garden brolly but myself & camera ended up stood just outside the edge of it. I had woollies (handknits, obvs) and a waterproof on, and ended up creating a rainhat for my camera out of parcel tape and a sandwich bag. As you do. Anyway, this all means that all of the yarn photos are now up in the Facebook event page for this update, so you can see that HERE. If you mark...

New Milburn 4ply shades! (And a lecture; sorry!)
I thought I might introduce you to the new-new shades of Milburn 4ply which arrived yesterday. They’re HERE on the website firstly, and the 500g packs get a little discount so if you want a sweater quantity you’re best picking one of those and then getting any additional balls. Let me tell you a bit about the new colours – they bring the palette of Milburn shades up to 15, and they’re all really well matched from my samples that I sent to the dyer (who is based not far from here). I’ve added in another neutral shade so there...
