Fuchsia Friday

Following my last colour-themed post, when I noticed more yarn/flower colour matching happening in the garden, of course I had to play again. This time it's all about the pink. First up.. The yarn is BFL Sock in Alpine (for Kathy's Knits in Edinburgh) - it's named for the bright pinks of many alpines, e.g. saxifrage, pincushion flowers, and... That being said I have none in flower right now (just given the saxifrage a hair cut), so here it is along with sweet peas:    Hydrangea (this one belonged to my Grandma and is older than me):    And begonia...

Purple

So as I was hanging a batch of BFL Sock in Salvia on the line (destined for Kathy's Knits in Edinburgh) , it struck me how much purple (or nearly purple) there is around the garden... So I nabbed a skein off the line and grabbed my iPad, and had a wild few minutes putting this purple skein everywhere. Here's how it went. It's a good match for this heavily perfumed buddleja (ironically not the shade of our Buddleja colourway)... Or how about alongside this sage..     I like it with the vibrancy of this small verbena..    And with the...

July Inspiration

July has been very rainy, and the colours outside are getting increasingly jewel-toned. It feels like it's been a long month, somehow - the pictures at the top here seem like I took them ages ago, and that philadelphus in the third photo is looooong gone at this point. The eschscholzia on the other hand, along with many others, is still going strong.. Which is nice.

Garden Colours of June

The title's self-explanatory I think.. I just love seeing the colour combat ions that my garden throws at me. This is mostly in view from the kitchen sink where I do my dyeing, so it does influence what goes into the monthly updates. Anyway... Enjoy!

5th of July Update Preview (Part 2)

Welcome to part two of tomorrow's update preview! It's just photos of yarn, but I thought the different colour combinations might help you decide (or make it worse!). First of all I did do five batches of Tempo 4ply (superwash wool/nylon) - they are Dandelion, Compost, Coppice, Steel and Antique Rose (which is a surprisingly difficult to photograph colour - it's very pale lilacy pink). Ok and the final hand dyed yarns for the update are all on Oakworth 4ply (100% superwash Polwarth wool). I am really loving this yarn and it seems you are too (it's nice to know...
