Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (DK)

Like the 4ply version, this cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 10 of them which you can get from THIS page on our website. The DK version is just that bit more cosy than the 4ply version and I've found myself using both cowls just as much, depending on the weather! It is - as you might expect - very quick to make if you want a little 'breather' project in between big projects; and it will be easier on the hands if you have arthritis/carpal tunnel/RSI etc. ☺️   While I was...

Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (4ply)

This cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 15 of them which you can get either in a cute jar or not from THIS page on our website.  For me, the joy of it was not knowing which colour would be coming next. I really had to let go of my inner control freak, which I found quite hard, but once I got going I actually loved it and it really kept me knitting. I like wearing mine as a sort of slouchy cap, as you can see, but it's really designed as a beanie.    Other colour combinations that work well have been used in our other Rokeby samples. The mitts below have been made in Fern and Charcoal....

There are plenty of options as always, but sometimes we need a bit of inspiration, and pointing in the right direction, don't we?! Once you get going you'll want to make ALL the things! With 400m per 50g skein this yarn goes a long way, and because of the fluff you can use large needles with it and it still creates a warm and cosy fabric. There's a more expansive blog post all about it HERE...

A cosy aran weight knitted shawl: Midnight Sunset

We're very keen on all things cosy right now - winter in the UK seems to shift a bit later every year which is great for us knitters and crocheters who love to bundle up in our handmade pieces. Or is that just me?!  With this in mind Ruth McKeon aka Knitterarium's latest shawl pattern release is really striking a chord with me! It's a big semi-circle shawl which has both lace and cosy garter stitch sections, and rather unusually it's made in aran weight yarn. You don't see that many shawls in aran, but when it's properly cold outside...
