Pattern Inspiration

  This is a little tale about a couple of dog walkers who are also knitters and really really love knitting and wearing cowls…    The thing is with cowls is that when you’re dogwalking and you bend down to clip the dogs leads on etc a cowl won’t flap about or get in the way like scarves do. I’ve long been a fan. Way before they were on-trend ;)    ECY yarn-enabler Debbie is the same. Initially released in 2014, Hencliffe is a large rectangular lace wrap. The lace pattern is similar to that found in Victoria's Willow designs (shawl, hat and mitts) and gives a lightweight fabric with beautiful drape. Hencliffe is perfect for snuggling up in or draping around your shoulders for an elegant cover up. The pattern previously used our mill dyed Askham 4ply in Blossom but has now been reissued calling for Titus 4ply in Whispering Grass. The silk content of the Titus 4ply adds a bit of shine making this project feel really special. You will need 200g/800m/872yds (usually two skeins) of a 4ply/fingering weight yarn...

Like the 4ply version, this cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 10 of them which you can get from THIS page on our website. The DK version is just that bit more cosy than the 4ply version and I've found myself using both cowls just as much, depending on the weather! This cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 15 of them which you can get either in a cute jar or not from THIS page on our website.  For me, the joy of it was not knowing which colour would be coming next. I really had to let go of my inner control freak, which I found quite hard, but once I got going I actually loved it and it really kept me knitting. Tiny Shoots is a light tee designed by Knit Now editor Kate Heppell back in 2013 - it was originally published in Simply Homemade as I don't think Kate was working for Knit Now at that point!
