Pattern Inspiration

It occurred to us that it might be really useful to have an ECY way to browse patterns and projects made using specific yarns, for inspiration and ideas. It's one of those things where once you think of it it seems blatantly obvious 🙈🤣  Just FYI - there are no links to Ravelry here. Initially released in 2014, Hencliffe is a large rectangular lace wrap. The lace pattern is similar to that found in Victoria's Willow designs (shawl, hat and mitts) and gives a lightweight fabric with beautiful drape. Hencliffe is perfect for snuggling up in or draping around your shoulders for an elegant cover up. The pattern previously used our mill dyed Askham 4ply in Blossom but has now been reissued calling for Titus 4ply in Whispering Grass. The silk content of the Titus 4ply adds a bit of shine making this project feel really special. You will need 200g/800m/872yds (usually two skeins) of a 4ply/fingering weight yarn...

Cat Knits by Marna Gilligan of 'an caitin beag' (she of sinister cat fame!) is a book of 16 knit designs all featuring Marna's signature kitties on a mixture of garments and accessories. It's a wide-ranging book actually - it feels like there's more than 16 items in there. Each chapter covers a different yarn weight, so there's a 4ply section, and DK section, an Aran section, and a Chunky section. Each section has a garment AND matching accessories included, and they range from nice simple textures, to stranded colourwork (like sinister cats), to intarsia. Intarsia! I swear that this...

We're very keen on all things cosy right now - winter in the UK seems to shift a bit later every year which is great for us knitters and crocheters who love to bundle up in our handmade pieces. Or is that just me?!  With this in mind Ruth McKeon aka Knitterarium's latest shawl pattern release is really striking a chord with me! It's a big semi-circle shawl which has both lace and cosy garter stitch sections, and rather unusually it's made in aran weight yarn. You don't see that many shawls in aran, but when it's properly cold outside...
