Hencliffe revisited: a re-release of our large lacy wrap pattern

Initially released in 2014, Hencliffe is a large rectangular lace wrap. The lace pattern is similar to that found in Victoria's Willow designs (shawl, hat and mitts) and gives a lightweight fabric with beautiful drape. Hencliffe is perfect for snuggling up in or draping around your shoulders for an elegant cover up. The pattern previously used our mill dyed Askham 4ply in Blossom but has now been reissued calling for Titus 4ply in Whispering Grass. The silk content of the Titus 4ply adds a bit of shine making this project feel really special. You will need 200g/800m/872yds (usually two skeins) of a 4ply/fingering weight yarn...

Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (DK)

Like the 4ply version, this cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 10 of them which you can get from THIS page on our website. The DK version is just that bit more cosy than the 4ply version and I've found myself using both cowls just as much, depending on the weather! It is - as you might expect - very quick to make if you want a little 'breather' project in between big projects; and it will be easier on the hands if you have arthritis/carpal tunnel/RSI etc. ☺️   While I was...

Magic Circles: a beautiful crochet scarf by Janie Crow

Initially released late in 2019, Magic Circles Scarf is a beautiful scarf (it's called that but we'd describe it as a wrap tbh!) design from Janie Crow. She had previously released Magic Circles as a blanket but then saw the Milburn DK range and was inspired to make a scarf design using the same motif.  Introduction by Jane: “I love looking at how shapes fit together and have wanted to create a tessellating circle design for some time. Circular motifs can be tricky to fit together and it is common to find the circular shape becomes slightly distorted when motifs are...

Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (4ply)

This cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 15 of them which you can get either in a cute jar or not from THIS page on our website.  For me, the joy of it was not knowing which colour would be coming next. I really had to let go of my inner control freak, which I found quite hard, but once I got going I actually loved it and it really kept me knitting. I just couldn't put this project down because I couldn't wait to see what would turn...

Willow Fingerless Mitts: intro, notes, and a finished project gallery

The first of my new designs to accompany the refreshed Willow Shawl, Willow Fingerless Mitts use a column of the Willow lace motif to add detail to the back of the hand. The rest of the mitt is fairly straightforward and the pattern offers ways to adjust both the hand size and length.  In the pattern development stage I tried a few different iterations to get the lace panel positioning right. I also realised during testing that I hadn't followed my own pattern for some early samples! 🙈 A very valuable lesson in reading the pattern rather than assuming you know...
