We have a very exciting pattern release coming soon which uses a combination of Carlisle Fingering and Nateby 4ply held double with Eldwick Lace to give a soft, snuggly cuddle of a shawl. What does semi-solid mean? Your guide to hand dyed yarns..

Ever wondered what terms like semi-solid, variegated, or OOAK mean? Hopefully this blog post will help explain and guide you through the myriad of hand dyed yarns that are available now. Firstly let me tell you a bit about production of hand dyed yarn, which will give you some context. It arrives from the mill in un-dyed skeins, meaning that the wool is not bleached or anything, it’s simply in its natural colour (in this case cream). When they process it they wind it into skeins (also known as hanks), and add a few ties to keep the skeins neat....

Preview of Friday's hand dyed yarn update: Harewood 4ply

Friday's update has a bit of a BFL theme to it, with two different superwash British Bluefaced Leicester yarns. It goes live at 8pm on Friday the 30th so set your alarms! So the first yarn is Harewood 4ply - this is a high twist yarn as you can see from the texture; it's slightly woolly but has good stitch definition and drape. It's one of the yarns used in Justyna Lorkowska (aka Lete's Knits)'s Holyrood shawl - this was our second Edinburgh Yarn Festival shawl collaboration. The EYF hangover

I have to be honest: I’m still reeling from Edinburgh Yarn Festival at the weekend. I know it’s cliched but it was just so nice. There were so many different accents/languages being spoken and yet it felt like everyone was happily sharing this wonderful experience and so it didn’t matter that there might be a language barrier.
